A green home
Nowadays, we strive more and more to keep the environment green. And this is not just a passing fad: as humans, we have realized how imperative it is to make the land we live in as safe and clean as possible.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
These 3 simple steps will guide you to live in a greener home. It doesn’t matter if you live in an apartment or a house, you can always follow these steps.
First, reduce. The whole family can do it together; it will make it easier! You can start with your shopping list: little by little, eliminate superfluous things, and buy only what you really need for your house. Try to buy products that can be reused (e.g.: glass bottles) and don’t forget to go to the supermarket with your own bag!
When it comes to reusing, think of fabrics! With a garage sale or just changing the color of some fabrics you can make your house look different, fresh and new.
Recycling can be done easily as a team. You can make it funnier using labels with colors and drawings, to capture the attention of the kids in your house. This will also help you explain to them how crucial recycling is for their future.
It is also essential that you locate recycling places close to your home. Once you get used to it, recycling will become a natural part of your everyday.
It might be a little difficult, but not impossible, to have plants if you live in an apartment: in effect, small plants can be placed in the living room, making the place look colorful, prettier! If you think that you can do more and need more plants around you, you can also plan a seeding schedule with your neighbors. If you live in Bonaire you’ll probably see cactuses everywhere; however, no matter how dry the weather is, you can seed different kinds of plants.
We all know how difficult it is to live without a phone or a tablet; we also know that the battery runs out every three or four hours. Unplug the charger of the devices when you’re not using it. If you use a multi plug extension, you just have to unplug it.
Don’t think your contribution to improve the environment is small: if we do it all together, we’ll have healthier cities and lovelier homes!
