Swim to Klein Bonaire
Jong Bonaire annual fundraising activity has added new activities to the event. Jong Bonaire organizes this big event each year as a major fundraiser for the island’s youth development program. This year’s event will include several swim competitions for those who want to test their skills in a race.
Sponsored by Jong Bonaire in conjunction with the Barracuda Swim Club, the competition races will begin at 9 am on Sunday, October-4th. All participants must be pre-registered before the swim starts. Registration will be at Jong Bonaire on Saturday, October-3rd from 17:00 to 19:00 at Kaya Libertador Simón Bolívar 16. Tel: 717-4303. There will be a last chance to register on the beach from 7 to 8 am on Sunday before the event.
The swim competitions will be held one hour before the start of the large public swim. There will be official timekeepers and spotters at Eden Beach and on Klein Bonaire.
For the competitive swim, the cost will be $25. Cost of the Public Swim to Klein is $15 for adults; children under 12 are $10. Safety boats and the Korpa Mariniers (Coast Guard) will accompany the swimmers in both directions.
The swim competition races include separate categories for men and women and within each category there will be separate races for ages 14 to 20, 21 to 30 and 31+. It is expected that the races will take about 30 minutes.
In addition to the new competitive events, the Jong Bonaire Swim will also feature a Caribbean Beach BBQ after the swim, starting at 11:30 am, along with a steel band to add to the festivities. The BBQ will cost $10 for swim participants and $15 for non-swimmers. Children under 12 will pay $7.50.
